Knitta Please!

If you haven't come across the movement of radical knitters knitting away.
You must look a little deeper under the surface. Cuz this is worth viewing.
Our domesticity at it's finest!
And be sure to watch Steven Colbert's Report on this insanity.

when I find work like this
it seems so simple. I love the wittiness of it.
like a child would make it.
In fact a child would - but in most cases we would
tell them it's not ok.
Last weekend when Leeloo and I went to the artLA
show,(where we brushed car doors with Dennis Hopper) (TMI)
she was looking at all this art work. And it was
an interest to me to see what she found interesting, more
than what I would find interesting.  When "work" comes
back to the simplicity like that of a child, it seems so obvious.
And yet we/I can drift away from that space.

What I see is someone not afraid of pursing an idea, a thought, a
playful gesture.  I get them all the time, some I act on, some I dont.
And when people go to school they are considered professionals
of this arena because they studied how to think in this way - or
elaborate it.

When we went to LACMA before Xmas. I was walking through the museum
and was wondering who put this stuff in here. This stuff being art.  It was
beautiful objects, paintings or what have you. And it was appointed by some
higher ups to give it a greater value than other work made.  Possibly.
I find there are so many beautiful things made, by people that are not professional
artist. That dont' just create paintings and sculptures. They are the ones
unseen, creating a life of love. Creating love in the little moments creates magick.
In the spaces in between.

This was something that I found from here, Jeff Bridges website.
If you feel like playing on the internet for awhile -
go there.
It's an eclectic aray of interest. And a well done site.

These are his five rules...for being happy.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:
1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.

These are mine. (minus the rules)
Receive & Give. It's a circulation that continually feeds you and gets you exactly what you need when you need it.
Gratitude. It's the heart's connection to all the good, all the bad, and all the in-between.
Joy. Find it. Live it, and Become it. It's what people want to feel more than anything.

And for shits and giggles try this on that fancy little tongue of yours...
Bobby Bippy bought a bat.
Bobby Bippy bought a ball.
With his bat Bob banged the ball
Banged it bump against the wall
But so boldly Bobby banged it
That he burst his rubber ball
""Boo!"" cried Bobby
Bad luck ball
Bad luck Bobby, bad luck ball
Now to drown his many troubles
Bobby Bippy's blowing bubbles.

pure education.

This weekend was a joy...
I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Attended the artLA -
Leeloo and I crashed it.

Went to the Encounter restaurant

"Validation"—a short film by Kurt Kuenne

At first I wasn't sure...thought it would be cheesy.
But seriously folks, it's kind of a tearjerker. Well for me anyways.
You will absolutely feel loved after watching this!

this one coincides with Validation...

the Return. The Renewal.

I've been quite...sort of.
I've been experiencing an integration. a return.
An integration of the old(past) and the new(thenow&future)
It's been great for me, not so great for the body
Needing more time to allow my body to catch up to the immense
changes, transition and integration.
About ready for a cleanse to facilitate the natural process that's
already underway.
And... we have some really incredible projects budding at our Studio,
that's also taking my time away from my blogging (study and research).
I can't wait to tell (show) you more as that comes about.
It's truly my first labor of love, that I can call my own, to contribute to our world.
Stay Tuned!

With all that said.
A personal renewal is underway, much like that of our country.
We, (and I) are beginning anew.

this is one of those moments in time.

Some things I cannot explain, put my finger on it.
Define a feeling, or put a structure to it.

This video embodies it well.

Lick and Lather

Janine Antoni, did an awesome installation called Lick and Lather.
Two carved self-portrait bust of herself, one made of chocolate(lick), and one made of soap(lather).
In most of her work she uses herself, ether through self portraits, or the use of her hair for painting.
Here's an excerpt from an interview on PBS. There's a series called ART21, that profiles artist of all kind, highly inspirational viewing!

"I think it’s a funny thing when you think about the creative process and what we go through when we’re making a work. A lot of times there’s this element of destruction. That we have to kind of unmake in order to make. And that interests me very much. And also working from very basic materials. I’m also thinking a lot about this idea that there’s this kind of relationship between me and her that I’m literally feeding myself with myself and washing myself with myself. So there’s this circular narrative that’s happening."

Shall We?

This is a conversation - if you can call it that - via Facebook from this morning.
I'm finding it interesting that people, are 'safely relating' through the internet in a certain respect, and revealing themselves through blogs, facebook, myspace, e-mails, etc...
And how they come across in person is either fabricated, hidden behind their personality, or totally different from who they present themselves as a presence via the Internet.
Would I say things differently if there was no text/e-mails/blogs/etc...?
I think there's a fair argument to say that there's a time and place for everything, and an
appropriateness to it all.

Texting can be ultra casual. So much nuances of people and what is being said is lost through texting.

E-mail is fair game - it can be personal/business

Facebook and Myspace should really be just fun and play, and
blogging an inspirational notebook posted publicly.

I'm not holding strong to this, as I'm just exploring this conversation with myself.
I'd love to hear any feedback about what others think of this.

(hmm not sure my post copied from facebook. will type it in later...)

I love you more than

This is really incredible.
I do this little ritual with leeloo every morning
telling her "I Love You More than....the sun, the sky, the ice cream
Dustin made, I did yesterday..."

There's a website here doing the same.

Dear God.

Here's a
website,  DEAR GOD,  that provides a place, to place your prayers.
One so that the world can see.
Prayers to a non-denominational God.
What do you think about people sharing their prayer?
I read some of them, some are sad, some funny, some seem really
simple to me. Like I could answer them, and give a direction.
Maybe I should start a website that answers God's Questions.

Ok. And if I wrote a letter to God right now it might go something like this...

dear God.
You Ominous Force. You have been such an intriguing part of my life.
I have looked a lot to find you. I no longer look. As I am learning the ways
of being Human here on Earth. I believe it's the basic task you assigned us all,
however I (you/we) may find it. I find it fascinating that people see God as
the responsible force that makes their life either better or worse.
I'm no expert on you, God. I do, and have found that I am fond of your creations,
and destructions. I love my beautiful daughter that we created, and all the
wild and crazy rides I've been on since the birth of my daughter, I love the
journey my life has provided, and the continual unfolding' that surprise me.
I've always known there was a higher force of some sort.
It always felt in my best intrest to be apart of it rather than away from it.
I guess in a nutshell, Love and gratitude cultivates my connection to God.

Holding the space of Love, in this movie starring Me (with You).
This was the (pg version of my letter to GOD
it would be juicier and more intimate without the
audience.)

a new balance

A new time, a new chapter, a new balance.
Over the weekend, I was feeling this in myself. I have been through many
waves, storms, and hurricanes in these past few years, and months.
And now it stopped.
the new balance is being re-established.
It's like living life with a
particular lens all my life, and now that lens is gone, taken off.
I'll go through situations that would throw me for a loop, and it's not.
I'll experience something that would give me tons of energy, and now it does not.
Or
Lastly, I'll experience something and be completely neutral.
about time!

Perspective. Feeling. Being.

If I really think about my life in a time line and encapsulate it through the gregorian calendar...by years. It might look a bit like this....

30 Years ago. I was born on Nov 7 1978.
20 years ago. I dont remember.
10 years ago. I was working at the Bodhi Tree Bookstore hanging out with a DJ in Silverlake, going to school for photography
5 years ago. I was leading full time life as a yoga practitioner.
3 years ago. I was in newborn bliss with my daughter Leeloo Love

However. It didn't happen that way, because it doesn't feel that way.

This my point, quick and upfront.
Life is often remembered through the feeling of your experiences.
The inner feelings that lay within you is what you create, and what you will remember.
In the past few weeks, there are many ideas about how to accomplish your goals in life for the "new year."
Like...Im going to be a hipster, or Im going to really get on the ball with my career, my body, my dreams etc...
The connection to make my friend, is the FEELING.
The Feeling of Being. The feeling of being, successful, happy, in love, healthy, accomplished or whatever you want comes from your frequency of being.

The Feeling of being successful comes from your focus, hard work, your ability to move through obstacles, and staying true to your path. Or the FEELING of being healthy, again comes through your determination, care for your body, and acknowledgement that you don't want to feel any other way.

For some this might not be new, for some it may.

A friend of mine was telling me about the life he wanted to create on the Full Moon last month. We did it intentionally sharing what was next for us. And as he talked, I felt everything he was saying through my heart.
That's how I take things in and process.
Although this time, it opened my eyes to see that life isn't just an image that we create. Like the perfect body, the perfect wife/husband, house, job, family, garden, etc... And the image of perfect can be totally different for everyone.
I saw my image of "perfect" be shattered this year. It's probably why I can say this now. What we want is usually what we have in front of us, and it's often our concepts that get in the way.

Yet, I see all of what you do want to accomplish will come through embodiment of the feeling ________.

Here's another blog entry along the same lines, by Jack Cheng.

As we work toward our resolutions for the new year, we can draw inspiration from Fuller’s remarkable mindset. Take a look at your list of resolutions. Instead of only asking “what do I need to accomplish?” maybe another question to ask is “what do I need to believe in order to be the kind of person who accomplishes these things?”

the intent.

To reinstate my intention for the blog, as it's mildly altered.

umm.

I might wear these, if they weren't so trashy (pun intended).
I'm not usually one for weddings and the peripherals that go along with it.
However, these days that is changing. I see things at times that make my heart melt.
This is one of them.

The Engagement Photos are sweet, I especially like the ones with lots of space in the picture.
Not necessarily the close-ups, the ones with space feels like what I like to have in a relationship.
Space....Light....and Space.

this is so right on.

If you're an artist and you want to get steadily better at your craft, you need to continually refine your approach to telling the truth. The novelist Willa Cather said that. Now I'm here to invite you to adopt that strategy in 2009, whether you're an artist or simply a person who wants to live your life artfully. The coming months will be one of the best times ever for you to penetrate to the heart of the truths you aspire to live by and become highly skilled at expressing them in every little thing you do.

Check yours out here, and see if it rings true.

to Blog or not to Blog

It's not the question. The question is where to Blog, there are so many options. So far I like Blogger, the ability to create a simple template and have minimal control is key. I don't want to think to much about it, at this point.

Here are some winning pictures of the day!
